Software Architect

Being a Software Architect at GMT

Green Mountain Technology is looking for a passionate and innovative Software Architect to lead technical design efforts for highly scalable, flexible, and resilient solutions that address business needs and accelerate our ability to achieve enterprise objectives. In addition to having proven technical expertise, being effective in this role requires a solid understanding of the product development process, deep analytical skills, creative problem-solving skills, excellent communication skills, and time and resource management skills to facilitate the creation of compelling solutions that address a variety of business needs and challenges.

Software Architecture is focused on the design, development, and communication of the architectural constructs that produce desired business outcomes realized through our products and services. Software Architecture is dependent on a well-established enterprise architecture to align IT with the overall vision and objectives of the business. The reference architecture and related standards and practices describe how technology aligns to the business needs of the enterprise. As a Software Architect, you will serve on an architecture committee to develop and maintain the enterprise reference architecture, including established principles and practices, design patterns, structures, and integrations. You will work to ensure that the guidelines established at the enterprise level are applied in the technical solutions that are designed and developed.

A clear understanding of business objectives and processes is essential for the Software Architect. This will require you to work closely with business analysts and business stakeholders to effectively apply your technical expertise to design solutions best aligned with business objectives. The Software Architect is responsible for making decisions about the nature of the solution. The solution that eventually results from this process begins as concepts that are informed by both business and technical perspectives. It is the responsibility of the Software Architect to transform these concepts and ideas into concrete designs that are used to direct development efforts.

Software architects aren’t just designers. They also perform key roles like:

  • Providing technical direction teams during design and construction of application development (solutions architecture)
  • Mentoring and training personnel
  • Monitoring strategic relationships
  • Communicating business goals with the application development team

Finally, software architecture doesn’t leave the key stakeholders behind. It considers the needs of senior management, business users, and IT while striking a balance between meeting those specific needs and staying focused on stated business outcomes. In summary, your primary focus as a Software Architect is on technical leadership. Your job is done when everyone buys into the technical vision and understands how technical solutions contribute to our product vision.
