What is Fast Order Fulfillment?
Fast order fulfillment is an order fulfillment strategy to deliver parcel products to consumers as quickly as possible. Resource efficiency and speed are the primary tools when managing fast order fulfillment.
Though E-commerce stores are most frequently attributed with fast order fulfillment, a variety of shippers are interested in delivering faster ā as fast delivery is a common want and trend among consumers.
What Goes Into Fast Order Fulfillment?
How a shipper crafts their fast order fulfillment strategy relies heavily on their individual parcel network ā not all strategies are equal for every shipper. Some shippers focus heavily on internal resource management practices (such as pick vs. replenishment or staying on top of inventory forecasts) that affect the beginning of the order fulfillment process, while others rely heavily on parcel carriers to simply speed up the delivery component of the order fulfillment process.
Fast Order Fulfillment Delivery Practices
In the last few years, fast order fulfillment via the delivery method from parcel carriers is an increasing interest among shippers of all types. Delivery strategies like Same Day, Next Day, and Weekend Delivery have become increasingly important to shippers as they manage current parcel contracts and enter new ones. This was especially true in 2019 when the Big 2 each announced 7-Day Delivery support.
